So you want to do a 3.4 swap. How do you get started? First, you’ll need a 5VZ-FE engine, wiring harness, and ECU. The best option is to get all 3 from the same vehicle, as this simplifies the swap. If you’re not able to get all 3 together, you can source an engine, find an ECU that will work with your swap, and purchase a wiring harness that will work with the ECU and the recipient vehicle’s options.

If the 5VZ ECU is from a vehicle with an automatic transmission and it’s going into a vehicle with a manual transmission, you may want to spoof the auto transmission solenoid signals to avoid your check engine light coming on.
