WHAT IS THE 5VZ ENGINE?

The 5VZ-FE is Toyota’s 3.4L engine which replaced the slow, underpowered 3VZ-FE 3.0L engine, affectionately known as the “three dot slow.”

WHY SWAP?

Many people choose to swap their 3.0L engines with the more powerful 3.4L. The 3VZ-FE can last a long time in its own right if treated well. However, it has a tendency to overheat and blow the head gaskets, due a couple design issues, particularly exhaust collection right next to the #6 cylinder. Rather than repairing the head gaskets, many choose to simply swap engines and get more power at the same time

The 5VZ-FE engine will bolt in as a replacement for the 3VZ-FE with very few changes, making this swap relatively easy to do, even for weekend mechanics.
